The Lucas Series of Microphone Preamplifiers



First was what we call “The Beast...”





We have no doubt that this is one of the finest microphone preamplifiers in the world. The LMP utilises a classic dual gain stage topology, but accomplishes this with full tube implementation, rather than with the transistor. The result is a full, rich sound, reminiscent of the finest vintage tones, but larger than life.
Features include detented gain controller in 5 dB steps; fine gain vernier controller; variable frequency high pass filter; 48 volt Phantom Power; -20 dB pad; Stage 2 Boost controller; “Phase” Reverse controller.




A single channel requires two separate 2u units, one for the preamp, and one for the power supply. The two units must be separated by a 2u space, so a racked unit will require six rack spaces (a different Lucas or other unit may be placed in between, or a vented rack panel can be used to help wth cooling air flow...we often rack ours with the Lucas Graphic EQ “in the middle.”)

The Lucas MP-VMO




The Lucas MP-VMO (Four Channel Microphone Preamplifier-Vintage/Modern Opamp) employs classic operational amplifier preamp design. The MP-VMO is clean and detailed, with excellent transient response. Channels 1 & 2 are fitted with the original vintage Huntington API 2520 opamps, and Channels 3 & 4 are fitted with modern John Hardy 990 dual opamps.
Features include detented gain controller in 3 dB steps; 48 volt Phantom Power; -20 dB pad; “Phase” Reverse controller.
